Intern (5 Positions)

Location: Work from Home/ NIUA, New Delhi

Type: One to six months (depending on project requirements)
Salary: A consolidated amount of Rs. 5,000 per month per intern, inclusive of local transport allowance and all taxes, will be paid to the selected interns. In case an intern leaves before completion of the contract period or without handing over all work assigned by the team leader, he/she will not receive any work certificate.
Project: The project is one of the child projects under GEF’s Sustainable Cities Programme in the GEF 6 cycle. The participating cities include Bhopal, Jaipur, Mysuru, and Vijayawada-Guntur. The aim of the project is to integrate sustainability strategies into urban planning and management to create a favorable environment for investment in infrastructure and service delivery, thus building the resilience of pilot cities. The three main project components comprise- Sustainable Urban Planning and Management, Investment Projects and Technology Demonstration and Partnerships and Knowledge Management Platform. National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) has been engaged to undertake the implementation of Component 3 – Partnerships, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building and prepare an integrated training curriculum module for various stakeholders in five pilot cities – Guntur, Vijaywada, Mysuru, Bhopal, and Jaipur. These modules will help in the implementation of the projects in the pilot cities.
Description: 
The interns will be deputed to the internal projects at NIUA, where they will be expected to assist the Team Leader/ Project Coordinator/ Programme Manager with the following tasks:
  • Assisting with research, documenting, analysis, writing and field work;
  • Regular communication with partners, preparations for newsletters and publications, and outreach to build the organization's network, and interacting with government agencies;
  • Organizing, attending and making presentations at meetings, consultations, webinars and events.
  • The interns will also provide necessary support to Director, NIUA in terms of analytics, research, documentation, independent assessment, visualization or any other related activities including reports, posters, dossiers etc.

Educational requirements:
  • Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy or any other related field (studying or recently completed).
Experience requirements:
  • Should be a fresher with less than one year of work experience, OR, be mandated by an educational institution to carry out an internship as part of the curriculum.
Desired Skills:
  • Should have interest and experience in Solid Waste Management, Wastewater Management, Faecal Sludge and Septage Management, and Water Management.
  • Strong analytical, conceptualization, reporting skills required. 
  • Advanced writing, research and analytical skills. Expertise in development of strategic documents, policy documents, action plans as well as preparing training materials/ manuals for different stakeholders would be preferred, but not mandatory. 
  • Should be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization. 
  • Should possess experience in the usage of computers and Office software packages. Advance knowledge of spreadsheet and handling of web-based management systems would be an advantage.
  • Should be willing to work full-time on the internship.
  • Should be available to travel to the institute when required.
