Description: 
We are looking for a highly passionate and competent individual to work on reforms in municipal strengthening, performance management and governance of water & sanitation. This position is based out of Bhubaneshwar and part of Janaagraha’s Advocacy & Reforms team, which works closely with governments, academicians, think-tanks and consulting organisations to drive key systemic urban governance reforms. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Undertake research on governance of water & sanitation to establish a case for systems view to sectoral challenges
  • Frequently coordinate and follow-up with government departments, municipal staff, government consultants and external stakeholders to collect, collate and analyse data
  • Support design and deployment of performance management tools and frameworks at the state and municipal level
  • Assist in documenting and publicising best practices and learnings from reforms initiated in Odisha
  • Co-create presentations and frequent updates for senior management within Janaagraha, relevant government stakeholders and donors
  • Help deepen organizational knowledge and expertise in governance of water & sanitation and identifying scalable advocacy agendas and reform practices
Educational requirements:
  • Any of the following educational qualifications – Post Graduate Diploma / Master’s in Business, Economics, Public Policy and Governance, Finance, Engineering
Experience requirements:
  • Preferably 1 year of work experience in government and / or management consulting, research, WASH, public finance or economics, performance management
  • A keen interest and passion for reforming urban governance in India, especially water and sanitation and basic knowledge of the same
  • Strong analytical, financial and numerical skills as well as aptitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong presentation making skills
  • The ability to take complete ownership and work independently in an unstructured work environment with minimal supervision
  • A positive attitude and keenness to solve complex problems
Desired Skills:
  • keen interest in urban infrastructure financing and awareness of the public transport industry trends and best practices
  • Strong financial, analytical and numerical skills as well as aptitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong presentation making skills
  • The drive and ability to own pieces of work in entirety, needing minimal supervision
  • The ability to deliver in unstructured and challenging environments, including working on tight timelines and in a data-poor ecosystem
