Project Background:
The Logistics Division of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), Government of India and 
GIZ are jointly implementing the “Climate Friendly Freight Transport in India” (Green Freight) 
project. As part of the International Climate Initiative and Indo-German Development Cooperation, 
the Green Freight project has been commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature 
Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The vacancy announcement is for this Green Freight 
Project.
The objective of the project is to provide strategies and technical solutions to the decision-making 
agencies at the national, regional/local level to develop freight transport in India in a climate friendly 
and efficient manner to support the India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The 
expected outcomes from the project are:
  • Two measures (e.g. national standards, data management systems, incentive systems,  training programs, etc.) for efficient and climate-friendly freight traffic according to the current international discussion on the issue are integrated into a national logistics plan.
  • A multi-sectoral and participatory mechanism for coordinating relevant stakeholders at both national level and at logistics corridor level will be used to monitor climate-friendly freight transport policies.
  • Three measures for the reduction of greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions (e.g. introduction  of fuel-saving driving modes or alternative drive systems of trucks, digital solutions for the reduction of empty runs, etc.) are implemented in a selected logistics corridor by competent actors (e.g.: freight companies, multimodal transhipment facilities).
The outputs to be delivered by the project include: a) establishment of strategic and institutional 
framework conditions for climate friendly and efficient freight traffic on a national and state level 
as part of the national logistics policy; b) Implementation of relevant green freight measures, c) 
strengthening of capacities for implementing green freight measures, and d) methods/tool are 
developed for measuring GHG emissions and emissions of harmful substances in the freight 
sector. As part of the project, GIZ will support national and state level partners, and the private 
sector in making the Indian freight and logistics sector climate-friendly and efficient. .

Responsibilities: Read the Notification .
Educational requirements:
  • 1st class post-graduate degree in engineering or planning or related fields from a  recognised university or institution OR PhD in sciences or environment or related fields  from a recognised university or institution.
Experience requirements:
  • Occupational experience: At least 10 years of proven practical experience relevant to the  project.
  • Expertise in the specific field: Specific expertise relevant to the project (examples: green  freight, city logistics, freight corridors, sustainable transport (urban/rail/sea/air) etc. 
  • Leadership experience: Leadership experience in managing projects/programmes and  managing teams
  • Experience in development cooperation: Experience of working with development cooperation agencies - international bi- and multilateral donors and financing organizations is preferable.
