Description: The position will be based at Dakshin’s head office in Bangalore but will involve considerable travel and stay at the project site in Ganjam, Odisha. The initial period may involve work from home depending on COVID-19 related constraints.
Responsibilities:
- To plan and conduct a scoping study on fisheries to understand the types of fisheries, major issues and management needs on the ground in the fishing villages chosen for the project
- To initiate a community-based fisheries monitoring programme at select project sites and undertake regular follow-ups to increase community participation in the programme
- To engage with fishers and key stakeholders on a regular basis and coordinate community consultation meetings aimed at instituting a fisheries co-management framework in the project sites
- To undertake data entry, transcription and compilation of reports as part of the project outputs
- To oversee junior staff/field assistants that may be hired for the project on a need basis from time to time
- To assist with other fisheries-related research in Odisha as may be required from time to time
Qualification and Experience:
- A Master’s degree in social work, fisheries/marine science, development studies, natural resource governance or any allied discipline with 2-3 years of experience. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and 4-5 years of relevant work experience would also be considered.
- Strong community engagement and coordination skills
- Experience in using qualitative and quantitative social research methods
- Written and spoken proficiency in English
- Working knowledge of Hindi; Knowledge of Bengali and/or Telugu would be an added advantage
